The galanthus is best known under the name "Snowdrop" and you can find them in winter and sometimes even as early as december. The galanthus is not only found in gardens but also in many woods and parks. In the netherlands, the galanthus is seen as the messenger of the coming spring. The flowers are bell-shaped and protrude above the last snow.

The galanthus elwesii is also called 'the great snowdrop'. She flowers earlier than the galanthus nivalis. The great snowdrop is a good naturalizer and very suitable for under trees and shrubs.
